Herederos de lo ajeno
La familia de Ioana vive asentada en un descampado a las afueras de Barcelona. Afincados de forma provisional en un terreno en desuso, han construido una nueva vida. La calle como gran supermercado nutre a estas familias, ya sea de metales que revenderán para fundir o de bienes que abastecerán al mercado de la tercera mano o que reutilizarán para su uso personal, aquí y allí.
Son muchos los que rastrean la ciudad a diario, abriendo cientos de contenedores. Sus escasas ganancias permitirán enviar dinero a sus familiares y mejorar su nivel de vida en Barcelona y en Rumanía.
Ajenos a la sociedad en general, heredan lo que ésta ya no utiliza, llegando a conocer a la propia sociedad a partir de lo que ésta deshecha, siendo éste el punto de unión entre las dos realidades.
Heirs of otherness
Ioana’s family live in an encampment on the outskirts of Barcelona. They have built a new life in their temporary home on disused land. The street is these families supermarket, whether its metals for smelting or things for the third-hand market or which they themselves have re-used during their exodus from their homeland.
Many people criss-cross the city every day, opening hundreds of rubbish bins. It can take hours to accumulate anything that’s worth a day’s work. Their meagre income allows them to send money to their families and improve life in Barcelona and Romania.
Living on the margins of society, they inherit what no one wants, coming to know society through what it throws out.
