Cumbre Vieja lava crash
The eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, has left thousands of people with their houses buried under lava and many families displaced, four months after the explosion. Little by little, some families who still have their house can return to refurbish it, remove rubble, clean up the ash. Those who are still sheltered in hotels or in caravans are still waiting to receive compensation or be able to redirect their lives.
The lava has covered 68 kilometers of perimeter, roads, neighborhoods and crops have disappeared. The different flows have destroyed 2,998 buildings and damaged 138. It has been necessary to evacuate more than 7,000 people.
